Hello, 40s!*

*and goodbye to your body as you’ve known it

I’m into my 50s now, but A LOT of things changed in my 40s. Things like:

  • More frequent shifts in my eyeglass prescription (and bigger fonts on my phone!)

  • A bloating belly with foods that never bothered me before.

  • Shifting teeth.

  • Clothes that didn’t fit the same.

  • Eye bags increasing in size (why do I look so tired?!)

  • A LOT (more!!) of grey hair.

Don’t get me wrong...I am grateful for the opportunity to experience these changes. But I certainly took youth for granted when I was in the midst of it! Ah, perspective…

Most of us know what we SHOULD be doing to live longer, healthier lives. But I’m not sure we realize how much change aging brings about. I know I learned a few things when I read this info on the Mayo Clinic website.

As we age, changes occur in our:

  • Cardiovascular system

  • Bones, joints, and muscles

  • Digestive system

  • Bladder and urinary tract

  • Sexuality

  • Skin

  • Memory

  • Teeth

  • Eyes and ears

  • Metabolism

To age in a healthy way:

  • Make daily physical activity a habit

  • Manage stress and get enough sleep

  • Eat a healthy diet and maintain a healthy weight

  • Wear sunscreen every day

  • Quit smoking and limit alcoholic drinks

Visit the Mayo Clinic website to learn more about these changes and actions you can take to live a longer healthier life. Then share this post with a friend you want to grow old with. Knowledge is power!

What changes have you experienced as you age? Got any advice to share? Let me know!
