Sow the Seeds of Change in September

I think September is one of the best months to reflect, take stock of where I am, and reset. Summer is winding down, the weather starts to cool, and I always feel like it is a fresh start. I love that there are four months remaining in the year, and I have the opportunity to establish new habits or let change settle in before the new year arrives.

I planted the seeds of some of my most significant life changes in September. Maybe it is my late-August birthday, the start of a school year, or my preference for the fall season that I feel compelled to assess the different areas of my life and sow the seeds of change. Not that the reason matters. It just feels right!

Feel like September is the right time for you to do some personal reflection? Block out time in your schedule, find a calm thinking space, and grab a journal or notebook. Write down the questions below and, with no judgment, let the thoughts flow onto the page. Take as much time as you need. Do what feels right to you!

  • What goals have you completed this year?

  • What unfinished goals do you have?

  • What changes have you made this year?

  • What have you been putting on hold?

  • What do you want more of in your life?

  • What do you want less of in your life?

  • Where in your life are you fulfilled?

  • Where in your life do you feel stuck?

  • What in life is most important to you right now?

  • Where in your life are you spending the most time and effort? Does this align with what is most important to you?

Based on your notes, identify the patterns that have emerged. Then decide where you want to focus your time and energy. Are there small changes you can make that will increase your happiness or decrease your stress? Is there one significant change looming that will improve your quality of life?

Prioritize what feels best to you. Change is less overwhelming when you focus on one thing at a time.

Have you invested in personal reflection this month? What patterns emerged? Feel like sharing something you learned?
