23 Ways to Have an Active Summer

Feel like you're in a rut with your movement routine? Want to start moving more? Summer is the perfect season to try something new or revisit old favorites. Take advantage of the season to be active in ways you enjoy!

If you need inspiration, here are 23 ways to increase your daily movement and have fun along the way:

  • hop in a pool or lake or ocean - tread water, jump over waves

  • stand at the BBQ more than you sit

  • mow the lawn

  • golf - or head to a driving range

  • water ski

  • hike - on a trail near you or where you go on vacation

  • jump rope

  • dig in the garden - pull weeds

  • go to the batting cages

  • put on your favorite music and dance

  • volleyball - or badminton or tennis

  • paddleboard or kayak

  • hang on the pull-up bars at a park

  • stretch or do some yoga poses at the beach or in the park

  • ride your bike instead of driving your car

  • walk - with a friend, while listening to a podcast, or at an indoor mall

  • shoot hoops

  • meet in the park for a game of tag or kickball or flag football

  • play a game of hopscotch

  • play frisbee or disc golf

  • soccer

  • visit the zoo or botanical gardens or amusement park and walk its entirety

  • find an indoor skating rink - roller skate or ice skate

Make fun (& different) movement part of every day this summer. It’s the perfect time of year to get outside, move your body, and rejuvenate your spirit.

What new things have you tried? What old favorites are you enjoying again? What can you add to the list?
