20 Ways to Practice Self-Care

Self-care n. the act of attending to one’s physical or mental health, generally without medical or other professional consultation

Engaging in regular self-care activities has been clinically proven to reduce or eliminate anxiety and depression, reduce stress, improve concentration, minimize frustration and anger, increase happiness, and improve energy. You can see why it is a hot topic! I believe self-care is one of the easiest ways to boost wellness and encourage you to make it part of your daily routine.

Self-care comes in many forms - big and small. It is more than massages, spa appointments, and pedicures. Those are awesome, but there are plenty of ways to practice self-care that you may be overlooking.

I pulled together a list of 20 ways to add self-care into your day. Read through to find your favorites and create your own unique daily self-care routine:

  • Listening to the messages your body sends (hunger, full bladder, thirst, tired) & taking action accordingly

  • Setting boundaries - with others & with yourself

  • Getting & staying hydrated

  • Speaking kindly to yourself

  • Connecting with a loved one

  • Reducing sugar intake

  • Speaking up for yourself

  • Taking short movement breaks during the day

  • Reducing handheld tech time

  • Scheduling less in your day/week/month - less ‘do’ more ‘be’

  • Increasing veggie intake

  • Doing an enjoyable activity

  • Spending time outdoors

  • Saying ‘no’ more often

  • Learning something new

  • Embracing failure as part of growth

  • Finding reasons to laugh

  • Saying ‘Thank You’ instead of ‘I’m Sorry’

  • Reducing or eliminating substance use

  • Giving your body & mind time to rest & recover

Enhance your wellness by fitting self-care into every day. You are worth it!
